About Us

The Big Event is, simply put, a day for the North Dakota State community to give back, show appreciation, and to say “thank you” to the Fargo/Moorhead community. On that day, we expect over 500 members of the student body to get out into the community to help with a variety of projects for citizens and non-profit organizations. Jobs will include helping residents with raking leaves, painting, cleaning and everyday tasks.

The Big Event was first established at Texas A & M University in 1982 by a former student body president who wanted to give students the opportunity to say, “thank you”. It has since become the largest single day, student organized, service event in the country.
